Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) is an integrated discipline that serves families and individuals by providing holistic, interdisciplinary, integrative, and preventative perspectives in addressing the needs of individuals and families as consumers.
Our Mission
Our mission is to build reciprocal relationships between ɬÀï·¬ and their environment — including food and nutrition, housing and interior design, apparel and textiles, and human services and education — in order to improve the quality of life.
Specifically “to prepare students to engage the culture and offer solutions to problems faced by individuals, families, and communities that involve food, clothing, shelter, and relationships.
Learning Outcomes
Goal 1: Graduates will be competent within a specialization of FCS that provides an essential service to individuals, families, and communities.
- Students will demonstrate strong communication skills to convey ideas and information effectively within each FCS program.
- Students will use critical thinking to acquire, evaluate and synthesize information and make appropriate decisions.
- Students will demonstrate skill proficiency.
Goal 2: Graduates will show love of neighbor through service to community, university, church, or family.
- Students will participate in discipline-related service-learning activities
- Students will participate effectively in collaborative-learning activities.
Goal 3: Graduates will demonstrate a commitment to personal and professional integrity and the mission of FCS.
- All students will be introduced to discipline-specific standards of academic and professional ethics.
- Students will build a portfolio that demonstrates a knowledge of self and FCS discipline.
- Students will reflect cultural diversity in their application of FCS content to practice.
