The is designed for educators and staff who would like to specialize in helping teachers and administrators explore how technology can be used to enhance teaching, learning, and professional productivity.

The Digital Education Leadership master鈥檚 degree is aligned with ISTE standards for coaches and with the relevant NETP goals and recommendations.

Program design

This 45-credit program, which can be completed in eight quarters, uses a cohort model beginning each Autumn Quarter. The course requirements include seven 5-credit courses and 6 elective credits.

The program begins with an orientation course and concludes with a practicum that provides you with practical, on-the-job experience, applying what you have learned in the program with real teachers, learners, and administrators.

Each course is team-taught by a full-time SPU faculty member and an experienced practitioner in the field. Courses are delivered asynchronously using a project-based learning model with weekly synchronous interactions between instructors and students. A strong emphasis is placed on using only open educational resources (OERs) for course content. Open access and free tools are used where possible. As a digital program, the use of paper is kept to a minimum.

Admission requirements

To apply for admission, submit the following items to Graduate Admissions:

•  and $50 application processing fee.
• Official transcript(s) from each college and/or university attended.
• If your degree is not from a U.S. college or university, please arrange for your transcript to be evaluated by a -recognized credential service. Acceptable credential services include, but are not limited to, (WES) and (FIS).

• Personal statement (1鈥�2 pages).
• Present a GPA of at least 3.0 (4.0 = A) in the last 45 quarter credits of coursework completed.*
• Two letters of recommendation. These letters should provide a current assessment of qualifications relative to past and future service in the professional setting, and capability for graduate study. Recommendations should come from present principals, supervisors, colleagues, or former professors.

*The  or  will be required if GPA is less than 3.0. On the GRE, preferred minimum scores of Verbal: 148 and Quantitative: 147. On the MAT, preferred minimum scaled score of 400.

Enrollment policy

• Students must be continuously enrolled in required SPU courses to earn this master鈥檚 degree, or until officially withdrawing from the program. Exceptions to continuous enrollment must be approved by the program director.
• Students may be granted a leave of absence for up to four quarters by the program director. Once the leave of absence has expired, the student will either enroll in graduate coursework or be dropped from the program.
• University academic policy requires continuous enrollment to remain admitted in a graduate program. After four quarters of non-enrollment, students will be placed in 鈥渋nactive status鈥� and will need to reapply for admission.
• If a student decides to no longer pursue a master鈥檚 degree, the student may officially withdraw from the program and SPU by notifying the program director and the associate director of graduate programs.
