Elections are being held for the following positions:
Area Council Executive (1 Per Area)
President
- Administer and delegate responsibility for the goals of Area Council and its programs.
- Share supervisory responsibilities with the vice presidents for all Council-approved committees.
- Preside over all regular Area Council meetings.
- Meet in advance of Area Council meetings with the ORL advisor and Area Council executive team to formalize the agenda and business items to be discussed.
- Hold all Area Council members accountable for the fulfillment of their duties.
- Serve as the main liaison to other hall leadership and campus partners.
- Supervise the social justice directors/intercultural coordinators on their Area Council.
- Weekly meetings with supervisees, ORL advisor, and Area Council. Physical presence in the area to connect with residents.
Vice-President of Finance & Administration
- Receive and distribute Area Council funds by the authorization of the council.
- Collaborate with the other Area Council’s vice president of finance and administration for budgeting of campuswide Area Council events.
- Provide regular financial reports at all Area Council meetings and present a budget to the Area Council before each event.
- Responsible for any reimbursements or purchases made from the Area Council budget.
- Meet in advance of Area Council meetings with the ORL advisor and Area Council executive team to formalize the agenda and business items to be discussed.
- Keep the ORL advisor updated on Area Council's financial items, including deposits and signatures for payment.
- Supervise the hall senators and report on any needs or concerns arising from Senate meetings to the executive team.
- Weekly meetings with supervisees, ORL advisor, and Area Council. Physical presence in the area to connect with residents.
Vice-President for Community Engagement
- Ensure that all Area Council-sponsored events are effectively publicized via posters, flyers, social media, and other applicable methods.
- Maintain and update Area Council social media in coordination with the public relations directors.
- Meet in advance of Area Council meetings with the ORL advisor and Area Council executive team to formalize the agenda and business items to be discussed.
- Responsible for any reimbursements or purchases made from the Area Council budget.
- Submit events for Looped In, Stall Talk, and on the SPU Master Calendar, as appropriate.
- Supervise the public relations directors, including supporting the creation and maintenance of a promotion schedule for all Area Council events.
- Manage tickets for events and create sign-up sheets for performances, events, and retreat in coordination with the Public Relations Directors.
- Promote knowledge of and interest in all area and campus activities as appropriate.
- Work with other organizations through the All Activities Council to ensure all campus events are supported and not scheduled at competing times.
- Weekly meetings with supervisees, ORL advisor, and Area Council. Physical presence in the area to connect with residents.
Area Council Hall Positions (1 Per Hall)
Senator/Residential Advocacy Director
- Represent the hall as a population in all ASSP Senate meetings and ensure that all hall residents’ interests are served.
- Assess student needs within the hall and advocate for programs to support community that will be submitted for approval by the residents before presentation in ASSP Senate.
- Responsible to the ASSP Senate and all committees on which the Senator may sit while serving as a representative of the hall; this does not exempt him/her from any responsibilities as a member of Area Council.
- Report weekly to the Area Council on the decisions and goings-on of the ASSP Senate and communicate such information to the hall residents.
- Encourage hall members, Area Council members, and constituents to attend ASSP Senate meetings.
- Create regular availability each quarter to connect with constituents through a regular event and/or office hours.
- Reports to the vice president of finance and administration.
Public Relations Director
- Ensure that all Area Council-sponsored events are effectively publicized via posters, flyers, social media, and other applicable methods.
- Maintain and update all area social media accounts as applicable in coordination with the VP for community engagement.
- Submit events in Looped In, Stall Talk, and on the SPU Master Calendar as applicable in coordination with the VP for community engagement.
- Manage tickets for events and create sign-up sheets for performances, events, and retreat in coordination with the VP for Community Engagement.
- Maintain and enforce publication guidelines for the Hall. Communicate with campus partners to ensure that publication guidelines are well understood.
- Keep all designated posting areas up to date by removing outdated advertising and ensuring that no unauthorized postings are present.
- Manage EMS and room/space reservation requests within the hall.
- Create and maintain a promotion schedule for Area Council events with support from the VP of community engagement.
- Reports to the vice president for community engagement.
Social Justice Director/Intercultural Coordinator
- Advocate for hall and university social justice-related groups/events/topics.
- Facilitate the selection and implementation of social advocacy programs undertaken by the Area Council
- Attend bi-weekly group meetings with the intercultural programming coordinator and all intercultural coordinators.
- Participate in a campus committee or club that is focused on diversity, intercultural affairs, or is ethnically/culturally/identity-centered once a month.
- Promote the efforts and programs of campus partners and various cultural clubs as appropriate.
- Provide a report at all Area Council meetings about intercultural affairs and programming on campus.
- Coordinate at least one of each of the following events during the academic year.
- A hall event specifically pertaining to diversity issues.
- An area event specifically pertaining to diversity issues, in coordination with your areas other social justice directors.
- Reports to the Area Council president.
